Favorite Teachers
by Kathy O'Connell
My favorite teachers were in 4th grade and 7th grade at St. Hugh’s School. Mrs. Minot had 84 students in her 4th grade class, and she made each one of us feel special while we learned a lot. When I first got glasses, Mrs. Minot very quietly said to me, “I see something new has been added.” I felt less nervous about wearing glasses and proud that Mrs. Minot had noticed. Mrs. Minot also stood in the doorway of our classroom and wouldn’t let the school’s crazy music teacher enter the room and yell at us after he had just spent an hour yelling at us. I will always be grateful to her for that.
Sister Bernadine was my 7th grade teacher. She was a very sweet lady, and I was her pet. She taught us by telling stories from her childhood, like when she visited Kansas and was shocked that “it isn’t pink!” because that was the color Kansas was on her map of the United States.
I had lots of teachers over the years, but these two extraordinary women were my favorites. Do you have a favorite teacher you’d like to share with the world?
