Welcome to Spark's Pictures

Official Kids Corner Photographer Mark "Spark" Wilkens has been a longtime friend of Kids Corner and, as a Kids Corner operator has answered thousands of calls from kids over the past 20 years of volunteering! Additionally, Spark is quite the photographer and often joins Kathy at regional events and concerts for the family. On this page we'll be posting some of Spark's Pictures from those events! Enjoy!

Kathy O'Connell kicked off the 25th Anniversary celebration of Kids Corner at our recent Kids Corner Music Festival at Union Transfer in Philadelphia on Sunday, February 17. Joining her on stage were Seattle's The Not Its! and, from Greensboro NC, Big Bang Boom! as well as several kids from around the region - who each got the chance to ask Kathy a question about her 25 years hosting Kids Corner. Plus we all celebrated our quarter-century birthday complete with a Happy Birthday sing-a-long and a dancing 25!!

Kathy O'Connell took the show on the road and went to Central Pennsylvania to present another Kids Corner Music Festival - our first in the region! The wonderful folk at Millersville University opened the doors of their brand-new Winter Center on November 17 to host the event, and many of their students performed for us in the Musical Zoo - held in the lobby of the venue, where kids could learn about instruments and even make their own! Once inside the hall, everyone enjoyed live performances from Steven Courtney & The Suitcase Musicans - as well as (all the way from Virginia) The Diggity Dudes! A great time was had by all!

Kathy O'Connell welcomed fans to The Annenberg Center at the University of Pennsylvania as we presented Kids Corner LIVE! The hour-long live broadcast was part of the 2012 Philadelphia International Children's Festival and featured live performances from The Pop Ups and John Hadfield!

We were honored to be part of the 2012 Philadelphia Science Festival and their Science Carnival on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Kathy O'Connell hosted the Kids Corner Stage and welcomed our science guests Mike Weilbacher, Jane Kirkland, Derrick Pitts and Dr. Lisa Chirlian. The afternoon capped off with a scientific performance from John Hadfield!

Kathy O'Connell read Dr. Seuss' The Lorax to a sea of kids at the 2012 Philadelphia Flower Show, where she welcomed a surprize guest - The Lorax himself! Spark was on hand to take pictures - and afterward, took some beautiful photographs of the Flower Show - he even caught Jane Kirkland of TakeAWalk.Com talking to fans! Enjoy!

Over 1,000 people joined us for the first Kids Corner Music Festival of 2012! Held at the beautiful Union Transfer, Kathy welcomed performances from The Fuzzy Lemons, Rolie Polie Guacamole, and Roy Handy & The Moonshot! Joining us in the lobby were our friends from The Arden Theatre, The Annenberg Center (home to the Philadelphia International Children's Festival), the School in Rose Valley - and of course, our librarian Joe Hilton!

The entire Kids Corner crew celebrated the start of winter at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education on Thursday, December 22, 2011 - along with many fans of nature (and Kids Corner!). Joining Kathy were Joe Hilton, Dr. Lisa Chirlian, Jane Kirkland, Derrick Pitts, and the Center's Executive Director - and Kids Corner's All-Natural Science Guy, Mike Weilbacher!!

Over 800 people joined us for our second Kids Corner Music Festival - November 2011 at World Cafe Live at The Queen in Wilmington DE. We all were entertained by The Plants, Shine & The Moonbeams and Billy Kelly & The Blah Blah Blahs!

Spark was knee-deep in the crowd at our first Kids Corner Music Festival - in March 2011 - where over 500 people came out to see Princess Katie & Racer Steve, Elizabeth Mitchell, Key Wilde and Mr Clarke and The Deedle Deedle Dees at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia!
