The Kids Corner Mural

THE WONDERS OF RADIO
The Kids Corner Mural

@ 43rd & Locust Streets
Philadelphia, PA

As part of its commitment to community, WXPN partnered with the Mural Arts Program back in 2004 to create the Sounds of Philadelphia mural series, designed to celebrate Philadelphia's diverse music legacy.

The Wonders Of Radio is the seventh and final installation in the partnership. This mural is designed to celebrate 20 years of Kids Corner and the visions and dreams of the kids throughout the region. Details on the partnership can be found at: http://xpn.org/inside-xpn/mural-arts-collaboration

Created by David McShane, the Kids Corner mural (as it is lovingly referred to here at the Corner) is unique because kids played a major role in both the planning and execution phases. It was a great way to get kids involved in their community while also serving as an outlet for their creativity.

Thanks to the students from:
John Hancock Demonstration School
St. Francis de Sales School
Penn Alexander School
Greene Street Friends School
and Alexander Wilson School

Each participated in art projects generating elements used in the mural.

The Mural Dedication Ceremony

On Saturday, June 13 the mural was officially dedicated with words of thanks and inspiration - as well as a wonderful performance from singer/songwriter John Flynn. Below are some clips from the ceremony:
