How I Spent My Summer Vacation

We live in an age when doctors help people live better lives by replacing worn-out parts of our bodies. Maybe you know someone who has received a new hip or a new knee. If you have seen me walk, you’ve watched me wobble because I was stiff and in pain. If you’ve been close enough to hear me, you may have heard me whine and groan about my poor hip. After this summer, I’ll have to find something new to whine and groan about, because on June 11th
I got a new hip!!
After my surgery, it will take awhile for my body to recover and get used to my new hip. During my recovery time, physical therapy will help me build up strength and get accustomed to moving without pain. I am going to be a very patient patient, following the advice of my healthcare team. That is the best way to insure that I’ll be healthy and strong for my return to live radio.
**On Monday, July 2 Kathy called Kids Corner producer Robert Drake during the Kids Corner Music Hour and talked about her operation and recovery so far ...

Going To The Hospital?
On May 29 Kathy welcomed two guests, Hilary Israel and Missy Lusk, both Senior Child Life Specialists at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. Together they talked about preparing for a hospital visit and listened as kids told their own hospital stories. It was an informative hour and we've broken the show into short Mp3 files that you can listen to below!

Going To The Hospital - part 2
Going To The Hospital - part 3
Going To The Hospital - part 4
As Kathy mentioned during the show, here are some helpful links to websites that can make a visit to the hospital a bit easier!
